Mousehole - 2 Fore Street
An honest bistro with harbour views "From the large shop front windows giving views over the picturesque harbour to the distressed wooden tables and white walls with nautical artwork, this bistro presents an honest opensess. First-class and generally local raw materials underpin the operation and Joe Wardell's simple, compact menu is an expectedly - though not exclusively - fishy affair. Think sardines with marinated beetroot, or a well-reported lobster plater with a selection of home-made bread, followed by fried skate wing with capers, croutons and red chard or 'perfect' rib-eye steak with chunky chips. Lunch has delivered 'superb' blue cheese and broccoli soup and 'excellent' crab and spinach bake, while straightforward desserts - like lemon curd pannacotta with vanilla shortbread - continue the theme. Nothing is too much trouble for the keen, friendly staff." The above review is as presented in the good food guide 2009.
