Mousehole - 2 Fore Street

Smart bistro with harbour views

"Large shopfront windows mean diners enjoy unrivalled views over this picturesque fishing village's medieval harbour, while distressed wooden tables, white walls and nautical artwork set the scene within. The menu offers an eclectic range of dishes including open crab sandwiches, home-smoked mackerel pâté pan-fried ray wing with brown butter, capers and hand-cut chips. These are all brilliantly simple and well-executed lunch dishes. The supper menu might offer shell-rosted scalllops with sweet tomatoe and basil butter, or steamed mussels with chilli, garlic and coriander for starters, followed by mains of sea-fish casserole with saffron and fennel-cream sauce, or cider braised ham hock with white beans. Service is friendly and attentive and the chef 'darting from table to table, chatting about the menu, makes for a relaxed and convivial environment'. Extra seating can be found in the rear walled garden. The wine list is as succinct as it is well chosen, the only drawback might be that the selection offers only one variety by the glass (at £3.25)."
